Series 4.5 The clear and close corners are a metaphor to the brain and the process of thought.

The spotted egg is a metaphor to the past that forms our present state of thought.

In its total appearance one might wonder how that state of mind can stand to reality.

The following two skulptures experiment with lenght and subtle vertical curves.

1) The Skulpture 4.4.1

The stand combines the light vertical curve with a short radius horizontal one.

While the shoulders are pulled back, the egg extends toward the front to observe the observer.

A slight colouring at the base of the egg prelongates the egg and its expression.

2) The sculpture 4.4.2

Small changes create a less fragile and more valuptuous object.

The spiraled egg captures the observers look and guide it into the top-center of the sculpture where it is invited to rest his mind and eye.

This skulpture is a breakthrough.

The stand is resting on only two points, and is stable and robust anyway.

The plain and pure egg is extremly regular and pure in its colour and fabrik.

The simple design of the stand is of the uttermost beauty from all angles.

Skulpture 4.2:

The stand is unique with its 3-point stand curving arround itself and frameing the egg in a simple but yet entangled way.

The egg on the other hand has only been enriched with a very reduced colouring aiming towards the tip of the eggs shape.

The skulpture is nosy and interested, while it indicates attention and smartness.

"Serie 4", reduced the design to the minimum, without saving in quality and detail. The stands are shorter, the technology is more refined, and the curves purer.

Model S.4.1. The low but wide stand binds the lightobject to earth while the virgin-white egg and the clear and upward shaping curve elevate the observer.

Fruit; the egg was inspired by the colour and surface of the strawberry. The couloured egg, hanging from the top like a ripe fruit, seems to invite to take a bite.

In "Serie 2" the flexed stand is refined and adapted to a series of premade eggs. Both products evolved into a single lightobject and sculpture.

It can be clearly seen that each lightobject is a entity, where the stand and the egg are one.

Since the stand is long and under tention, wind and base-vibration transver their rythm to the object.

This puls and the reflective crome of the stand make the object interact with the colour, sound and movement of its surrounding.

Reflective elements of the egg enhance this effect.

While subtle engravings can be sufficient to substitute a complex surrounding.

It seams that a simple stand and a more complex egg work together well.

While more complex eggs can also be enframed by tangled shapes without beeing overloaded, as long as they follow the same rythm.

It was difficult to find the optimum in the base-circle, which had to be small enough to be ellegant while it needs to be large enough to balance the egg.

The correct frame enlightens and embraces even the most humble egg.

Looked at from every angle the stand must be equally in harmony with the egg.

The way "Serie 1.2" finetuned the egg-design, "Serie1.3" attempts to improve the quality and variety of the stand.

This simple and high stand, which complements the otherwise unfinished egg shows that the correct base enlargens the whole design.

Soon the straight stand appeared to be limmited and simply bending it showed to be unfunctional. The idea of having a flexed stand opened a new dimension of presenting the egg.

Varying the shape allowed to complement even the most distinguished egg.

But the details still required a lot of refinement, in order to correctly enhance even the most unique eggdesign.

The following examples are part of the "Serie 1", but yet apart. Therefore they are posted under "Serie 1.2".

The time spend trying to manipulate the Egg into something new started to show first effects.

A geometric combination of crystals and holes created a sparkling object of a simple but extravagant appearance.

Even something as simple as holes would start to show sparkling effects as the skills increased and the methodology became more finetuned.

The method that showed the best effects was one of following a simple procedure to the end, this might be seen as a leaning to fractal geometry.

While the sole use of crystals didn't lead to a satisfactory design.

Further experiments with colours and scratchings revealed further potential.

The climax of a multimaterial mix has been reached in the egg-design "Deifi".

The first Series was created after a year of research about how best to fix the egg to the lampholder.

Experiments testing a wide variety of materials followed.

The beauty of the simple and pure materials showed to be strongest.

While reducing the design, subtle variations in colour and shape took place.

Cristalls were added, holes were drilled.

Federn wurden bis zum Exzess gemischt und die Eioberfläche auf vielfältige Art verändert.

More materials were sucessfully combined.

The resulting permutations showed a vast variety of emotions and connotations.

Lichtquellen wurden mit obskuren Ergebnissen getestet.

Überladene Designs wurden verworfen.

While certain aspects were recogniced as good for future projects.

Despite all excursions into the colourfull and strange, little, subtle and reducing innovation showed the largest effects.

The Designer

Following his passion and inspiration Johannes Hoyos reveals the potential of ostrich eggs. Inspired by the eggs’ shapes, colours and deeper symbolic meaning, he developed the initial lamps into sculptural designed objects embracing the mere ostrich egg.

Theme:

The egg, symbol of life and its beginning, is the central theme that inspires the designer and his work. The hidden dynamical processes of life and its tangled paths, as well as its fragile state and peaceful nature, are the origin and inspiration behind each sculpture.

Each egg is unique as the potential life it embodies. This uniqueness inspires an individual creative process highlighting the character of the egg. Depending on this individuality, certain aspects of the egg are brought to light.

Furthermore an individual frame of chrome complements each egg. It highlights the power and dynamic of the Eggs shape and transfers its energies to the third dimension. The final sculpture is multifaceted and sometimes disturbing and demanding to the observer.
